Karl Genser – Questions for…

We received many impressive photos from dedicated photographers for our Datacolor photo contest about travel and landscape photography that took place in Germany during summer 2017. Our jury had a hard time selecting the five winning images, as so many photos would have deserved to be awarded. In order to savor these wonderful images, we will present some of these pictures in our blog from time to time, introduce you to the photographer and tell the story behind the image.

Karl Genser
I was born on a small farm in the southeastern Styrian hill country (Austria). I was interested in technology and photography at an early age. I became radio and tv technician and have worked as technical employee at the ORF in Styria, a TV station.
When did you start your photography?
When I was in school I had my first contact to my neighbor’s Praktika SLR. When I was a teenager I got my first Yashica, that accompanied me on my travels.
Is photography your hobby or your profession?
Just a hobby.
How and where was the image taken which you entered to the competition? Is there a story about it?
In order to take this image I had to get up two hours prior to sunrise as this spot can only be reached after 1.5 hours walk around the lake. This early in the morning there’s no public boat transport available, but being all by yourself you can perfectly enjoy the awakening of nature. Only two hours later the pier is filled with hundreds of Asian people for the rest of the day.
Who and/or what inspires you most?
Nature with its landscapes, flowers and animals.
What’s your photographic focus?
Landscape, travel, animal photography and some macro images.
What’s your next photo project, your next challenge?
I’m currently planning my first trip to Iceland together with a friend in June 2018.
Do you include color management in you photographic workflow?
A calibrated and profiled monitor with an extended color space is of great importance to me.
What do you do with your photos, do you print them, post them on your social media accounts or your website or do they simply stay on your hard drive?
I publish them to my own website (www.karlgenser.at), Facebook and 500px.
What’s your photographic goal, what do you dream of?
I would like to enjoy the beautiful nature as long as I can and to further improve my photography and image editing skills.
